ALMA Artspace CIC is a community arts organisation based in Newquay, Cornwall.
We believe that our community in Newquay deserves access to high quality art, creativity and cultural experiences that benefit their health and wellbeing, develop creative collaborations and generate positive opportunties for investment and economic growth in our town.
Our mission is to provide access to inclusive, engaging and inspiring creative activities for everyone.
To do this, we deliver a rolling programme of workshops, exhibitions, events and pop-ups at venues around Newquay. We work with professional artists from all disciplines (based in Cornwall and beyond) to deliver a vibrant schedule of activities which are accessible to people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.
Our workshop fees are free or subsidised (thanks to funding) and our exhibitions and events are always free and open to all. We believe that artists should always be paid properly for their time and expertise.
Contrary to our name, we don’t have a physical gallery or event space (yet), but we hope to open a publicly funded, dedicated cultural hub in Newquay one day!
We believe that art is for everyone, and we want to share the positive benefits of art and creativity with our community, whilst encouraging people to join in, learn new things, ask questions and make new connections.
As a CIC, all our activities directly feed back into our programme of events, exhibitions, workshops and community projects for the people of Newquay and beyond.
In 2024, we have received funding from Experience Newquay to deliver two ambitious and exciting projects:
Project 1: A large scale sculptural commission in Newquay, made by the community under the guidance of artist Robin Sullivan.
Project 2: Alma Winter Arts Festival - a vibrant weekend of exhibitions, pop-ups, workshops and live music at venues throughout the town.

Future Plans
ALMA is is committed to enriching cultural life in Newquay and beyond. Whilst working with our local community and artists based in Cornwall, we also want to invite international artists, musicians and makers to these shores. We look forward to sharing their stories and inviting them to experience this inspiring place through funded residency programmes and studio swaps. We are currently looking for long-term space.
