The Last Days of a Giant by James Meredew at Newquay Orchard
The Last Days of a Giant: a photographic exhibition by James Meredew documenting the final few months of a 150 year old Radiata Pine at Trebah Garden. Now showing at Newquay Orchard.
James’ primary focus is in the natural world and the landscape of Cornwall. Working on ambitious trips to photograph abandoned mines, tidal sea caves and remote headlands. A variety of printing and experimental techniques are often used in his work with the subjects deeply rooted in place and home. “I’m really interested in what’s been left behind on the land, physical marks made by men and women that have shaped the scenery. I like myth and legend that can be visible in the landscape, like old Cornish tales and superstitions.”
James lives and works in Falmouth where he runs Ancient Magic Editions, a printing project specialising in small run photobooks.
