ALMA exists to promote and share contemporary art, across all disciplines.

We believe that art is for everyone, and we want to see more of the things we are inspired by in our community.

ALMA is Ingrid and Lucy. Two women united by the wild ride of : emerging from art school, moving to big cities (Oslo / Berlin and London respectively), experiencing existential crises in our late 20s, moving to Cornwall, ‘settling down’ and having babies. We share a mutual love of art, photography, books, music, travel & food and we wanted a space to share our meandering conversations.

We also both appreciate a pleasing rock formation.

From our joint longing for creative pursuits and inspiring interactions, we realised we needed to carve out our own space to explore these things in a different way.

For the time being, ALMA exists online, without the confines and financial pressures of a physical space. Eventually, ALMA will feature a listing of exhibitions, workshops and events happening in and around Cornwall and we hope that soon we’ll be out there hosting our own too. We will also share our favorite books, music, artists, films & stories.

We live in one of the UK’s most beautiful and creative places, and our plan is to take our ideas outside and on the road, with events, exhibitions & gatherings unfolding in the great outdoors. We look forward to meeting you along the way.

We are excited to connect with creative people in Cornwall and the South West. Our aim is to delve deeper in to what it means to be an artist in Cornwall now.

Whilst working with our local community we also want to invite international artists, musicians and makers to these shores. We look forward to sharing their stories and inviting them to experience this inspiring place.

Seeing it all from a different perspective.

The word ALMA has several meanings in different languages including : nourishing, kind, feed one’s soul and lifts the spirit. Some sources even suggest it has roots in the Greek symbol for the sea or Arabic for the water.

As a word, it feels calm, rounded and open. A soothing path towards something familiar and maternal. We both felt that whatever we create, it needs to be approachable and for everyone, and ALMA emerged.

This is a space to talk and explore creativity.
